Supporting a better understanding of how words shape children’s lives
Words Matter is a UK charity working to end verbal abuse of children by adults and improve children’s mental and physical health and development.
The charity reports that two in five children experience harmful verbal abuse from adults.
This is often unintentional, but the words children hear can have a lasting effect on their confidence, wellbeing and development. Through research, public awareness and practical education, Words Matter helps adults understand that impact and communicate with children in ways that help them feel safe, valued and able to thrive.
Words Matter is a charity close to Queensdale’s heart. Our Director, Fiona Paré, is a founding trustee of the charity, having been involved with its inspirational founder, Jess Bondy, from the outset and having collaborated on philanthropic ventures for several years prior to its inception. Queensdale remains an active supporter of the charity’s work wherever possible.
At Queensdale, we understand that a home is more than a physical space.
The relationships and everyday interactions within it help shape how children feel and grow. We are proud to support Words Matter’s work to end verbal abuse of children by adults, and to help bring its message to a wider community.
We encourage our members and community to learn more about the charity’s work and share its resources with parents, carers and everyone who spends time with children.
Words Matter offers free resources for adults, including its online course, How to Communicate with Children so they Thrive.
