Focal Points: How to Create a Room’s Centrepiece, The English Home
Fiona Paré, Founder of Queensdale, shares expert insight in The English Home, contributing to a feature by Emma J Page on the power of focal points in interior design.
Spanning pages 78–85, this considered piece explores how to create balance, focus and form within a space – through architectural details, furniture placement and clever use of light. Fiona Paré is invited to share her approach to reinterpreting traditional features for contemporary living.
“The knack is to reinterpret traditional features for today’s living,” Fiona notes, “perhaps bringing to life an old fireplace with a convivial fender, fire dogs and baskets, or repurposing a striking storage chest between sofas as a coffee table.” She continues, “We recently placed a large mid-century Danish desk and chair in the front living room of a London terrace where once a pair of sofas predictably sat opposite one another… it changed the purpose of the room, providing a fresh focus.”
The article reflects Queensdale’s belief in homes that are not only beautiful but intuitively composed – with expert guidance that balances tradition with individual intent.
